What are BikeBunkers?
BikeBunkers are secure hangars for you to securely keep your bicycle close to your home and safe, reducing clutter and worry, at a price of €100 per year.
How much does a space in a BikeBunker cost?
The cost for an individual parking space in one of the BikeBunkers is €100 per year.
What types of bikes are accepted?
A standard sized bike or e-bike can fit in the BikeBunker, specifically a bike that is less than 2 metres long and no wider than 33cm at the panniers and other accessories (excluding handlebars). If you have a non-standard cycle or a cargo bike, please notify us in your registration form and we will consider whether this bike can be accommodated.
Are there specific times when the BikeBunkers can be accessed?
No. The BikeBunkers are placed in publicly accessible locations and – once you have been assigned access to a BikeBunkers – you can open it 24/7 by using the smartphone app to unlock the electronic lock.
Can I have multiple subscriptions?
Parking spaces are in high demand and we expect the service to be oversubscribed, so spaces are limited to one per person, but multiple people from the same household can apply for their own parking subscription.
Applying for a space
How do I apply for a space?
To apply for a BikeBunker, register your interest on the Register Interest page. This will be the main method for determining BikeBunker access, when a BikeBunker is installed applicants within a close radius will be sent an email with further instructions on a first come first served basis.
Who decides on the installation of BikeBunkers?
Dublin City Council makes the final decision on where and when new BikeBunkers are installed, but we provide them with the data from the applications submitted by prospective service users. When a new BikeBunkers is installed, we will contact applicants who have registered their interest who live within a 200-metre radius of the new BikeBunkers.
Accessing the BikeBunker
How do I open a BikeBunker?
The BikeBunkers are secured using an electronic lock. The lock can be opened and closed using a smartphone app. When you have been assigned a parking space, you will be given instructions for how to download and using the app, and you will be given access to the electronic lock on your local BikeBunker.
Can I choose my parking space within a BikeBunker?
There are six parking spaces in each BikeBunker and these spaces will be automatically assigned in the first instance. However, if you are unhappy with the space you’ve been assigned and want to use a specific parking space, please contact us and we will endeavor to accommodate your request.
Can I switch to a different BikeBunker?
If you want to move to a different BikeBunker, e.g. if a closer bunker has been installed or you have moved home, then please contact us about your request. You may have to join a waiting list for the new BikeBunker until a space becomes available.
